Live blog: Red Sox lose to Blue Jays, 2-0, in final exhibition game at Fenway Park

Bottom 5th, 8:52 p.m. — FINAL, Blue Jays 2, Red Sox 0: The game has been called due to rain. With rain pouring down at Fenway Park, the grounds crew added the tarp and shortly afterward, both teams decided to cancel the game. The Red Sox will be off on Thursday and then host the Orioles at 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday for their opening day game.

Top 4th, 8:25 p.m.: Some lucky pedestrian on Lansdowne Street could be walking away with a souvenir after Vladimir Guerrero Jr. blasted one over everything in left field. Johnson left a hanging breaking ball over the plate and Guerrero destroyed it.

Top 4th, 8:20 p.m.: Godley’s night is finished and it was a good one. It wasn’t fancy but he threw strikes and lasted longer than manager Ron Roenicke could’ve expected. Lefty Brian Johnson, a candidate for the fourth spot in the rotation, is taking over on the mound.

Bottom 3rd, 8:13 p.m.: Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette is going to be a star in the American League East for a long time. Bichette robbed a hit from Chavis, who smoked a grounder to the left side but Bichette made a diving stop, jumped to his feet and fired a bullet to nail Chavis at first base. Trenton is cruising through three on just 43 pitches.

Top 3rd, 8:03 p.m.: Godley is settling in nicely and keeping the Jays off-balance. With just 35 pitches through three innings, this is the kind of efficiency the Sox would love to see from their starters when the season kicks off.

The Red Sox will host the Blue Jays for the final exhibition game at Fenway Park before their opening day game against the Orioles on Friday.

RIght-hander Zack Godley is on the mound for the Sox as they take a look at the former 15-game winner as an option on their pitching staff.

The Jays are throwing sophomore right-hander Trent Thornton.

The Red Sox made two changes to their lineup from Wednesday’s game, adding Michael Chavis at second base over Jose Peraza and Kevin Pillar in right field over Alex Verdugo.
