The Allen Theater glimmered at its grand opening. Workers coated the ceiling with 100 pounds of gold leaf and brushed it with buttermilk to prevent it from tarnishing.Billed as “The Pride of the Show World,” the movie house premiered Sept. 8, 1920, at 281 S.
