    The trend of the sharks smelling blood in the water continues. Many of these outfits are selling capes they don’t have. Danielle noted this explicitly re Grow Studios — noting lack of design, and end-to-end product dev capes, and Fit & FInish all around — they’re hustling and selling themselves on things they lack.

    Michael Carrier, CEO, explicitly asked for help “getting the word out” about their lab. “We’ve done friends and family. We’ve got multiple clients and more from word-of-mouth. We need Next Steps.” We got into positioning scenarios, touting their collaboration with product clients, and moving their stories from beyond ‘we’re the stern parents who tell you your product can go out to market’ and into remediation and consulting services.

    Michael responded well to my suggestions that clients will respond to product differentiation via clean results from non-required testing.

    Lit Club does a lot of things right. They had a solid booth, good aesthetics. Lovely products, Great presentation –

    Started with a pre-roll – “Flavor-forward” — No strain. great packaging. glass tube. great screw top. Avens flicked the pre-roll out of the tube: the doob comes out enough to smell; “locks-in” to the opening of the glass tube.

    In December, released a bunch of CBD vape pens. Super nice & high-quality. matte plastic. Ceramic mouthpiece.  Their products are not yet widely available in dispensaries. They will respond well to QP’s approach to design, packaging, branding, experience.

    Michelle’s platform is live in Canada and Brazil. They’re working to get more paid subs in the US.   • Serving Cannabis in California Restaurants is Legal, But Not Easy

    Yelp Reservations hosted a lunchtime panel last week for a timely discussion about the recreational use of cannabis in Los Angeles.

    The LA restaurant community attended to learn how State Bill 94 applies to restaurants and bars, according to Eater Los Angeles.

    Out of caution, most local eateries have steered clear of adding any type of cannabis to their menus. Eater previously covered that it is perfectly legal to add CBD to any food or drinks, but only from sources that comply with California and federal law. 

    There are already a number of restaurants and bars that serve CBD foods and drinks in Los Angeles, and they’ve carefully been watching the law to make sure they don’t overstep.

    But the law can be a bit tricky, as federal and state laws can conflict. THC, or psychoactive cannabis is a Schedule 1 drug, and is illegal for anyone in California to sell without a permit.

  • Why Coffee Could Be the Opposite of Cannabis

    What does coffee have to do with cannabis? According to a new study, your morning joe causes a drop in the levels of certain substances that are linked to the body's system for responding to marijuana.

    The levels of these substances — metabolites found in what's known as the endocannabinoid system — decrease in people who drink between four and eight cups of coffee a day, according to Live Science.

    Endocannabinoids are molecules that bind to cannabinoid receptors, which are found all over the nervous system, as well as in immune and endocrine tissue. The body makes its own endocannabinoids, but it also responds to foreign cannabinoids, like the ones found in the leaves of plants of the Cannabis genus.

    Coffee suppresses the endocannabinoid chemicals that smoking marijuana boosts, said Marilyn Cornelis, an assistant professor of preventative medicine at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine, who led the new research.

  • Mondo Cannabis Powder Is Weed Made for Taking at Work

    Mondo is marketed as an anti-anxiety supplement that you can take during work hours. Its website promises “anxiety relief without intoxication,” and the small, attractive glass jar is shown resting on a laptop, according to Bon Appetit.

    The powder contains coconut oil, cacao butter, and three parts of the cannabis plant: THC (the compound in cannabis that has psychoactive properties and is still illegal in many states) as well as CBD and CBN (compounds that don't have psychoactive properties but are used to treat pain and stress).

    The folks at Mondo start by extracting the cannabis compounds by simmering the cannabis in coconut oil, which gives the product a warm, pleasant aroma and taste. How they make it into a dissolvable powder is a trade secret.

  • Las Vegas Marijuana Dispensaries Offer Valentine’s Day Deals

    Two Las Vegas Valley marijuana dispensaries will welcome one of the country’s most romantic days of the year with discounts on pot.

    The+Source will offer store points for those who refer a new customer from Feb. 13 to Feb. 15, according to the Las Vegas Sun.

    Five pairs of customers and those who referred them will be selected for a free candle-lit dinner at pot-themed Cheba Hut, which is located two doors down from the Las Vegas location. Flowers of the Field will also gift a $75 bouquet to the five winning couples.

    “Valentine’s Day is a social holiday and marijuana is something that’s best enjoyed with other people,” said The+ Source spokesman Dan Zarrella. “We want to celebrate this thing together.”

    Cannabis Cocktails for Beginners

    Now that Prop. 64 has begotten a recreational marketplace for marijuana, many are rolling their eyes at advertisements for cannabis-infused tea, chocolate and barbecue sauce. 

    But while legalization opens the gate for long overdue research on the medical efficacy of cannabis, Prop. 64 also grants more Californians the opportunity to experiment for themselves with the potential benefits of cannabis, according to the North Coast Journal.

    Two local women, Gillian Levy and Susan Cleverdon, have built a business on the need for a safe way to explore using cannabis for health and wellness. 

    "We see cannabis as a super food or nutritional support, rather than a drug," explains Levy, stressing that the tinctures are formulated to promote optimal wellness.

    Are CBD Dog Treats The New Wave Of Cannabis?

    Like humans, dogs have an endocannabinoid system.

    Since we’re not 100 percent sure of all of its functions and finer details, all we can really decipher is that it’s under-serviced for the time being. In humans, that often means throwing the broad spectrum of cannabinoids at a concern, but this strategy does not work with dogs, according to the Fresh Toast.

    THC is never a good idea for a pup, as it makes them nervous and anxious. We do know that non-psychoactive in humans CBD is also not psychoactive in dogs, so many have been seeking it out to help with various canine issues.
