  • Serving Cannabis in California Restaurants is Legal, But Not Easy

    Yelp Reservations hosted a lunchtime panel last week for a timely discussion about the recreational use of cannabis in Los Angeles.

    The LA restaurant community attended to learn how State Bill 94 applies to restaurants and bars, according to Eater Los Angeles.

    Out of caution, most local eateries have steered clear of adding any type of cannabis to their menus. Eater previously covered that it is perfectly legal to add CBD to any food or drinks, but only from sources that comply with California and federal law. 

    There are already a number of restaurants and bars that serve CBD foods and drinks in Los Angeles, and they’ve carefully been watching the law to make sure they don’t overstep.

    But the law can be a bit tricky, as federal and state laws can conflict. THC, or psychoactive cannabis is a Schedule 1 drug, and is illegal for anyone in California to sell without a permit.

  • Switzerland Considers Making Cannabis Legal

    Cannabis could soon be legal in Switzerland.

    The Swiss Council of States, Switzerland’s smaller chamber of parliament, unanimously approved a bill allowing studies and pilot programs in the landlocked Alpine nation, according to Herb.

    The Council called for an experimental article in the Swiss Federation’s Narcotics Act that would allow for scientific research projects including trials of a “coffee shop” system of cannabis distribution similar to that of Amsterdam.

    Five Swiss cities have already called for such coffeeshop pilot programs.

    In case you haven't noticed, the cannabis industry is growing at an incredible pace.

    Within the U.S., according to a report from Marijuana Business Daily released in 2017, legal weed sales are expected to grow by 45% in 2018, mainly because California opened its doors to legalized recreational weed.

    Throughout North America, cannabis research firm ArcView estimates the industry can grow by an average of 26% annually through 2021. That type of growth is hard for investors to ignore, and it's a big reason many pot stocks have doubled or tripled in value over the trailing year.

    But as you're probably aware, even with marijuana being viewed in a more positive light in the U.S. and many other countries around the world, the industry is completely different from one country to the next. This is perhaps no more apparent than when examining the price per gram for cannabis across the world.

  • Ontario Proposal to Allow Cannabis in Hotel Rooms Could Jump-Start Pot Tourism

    Ontario’s proposal to allow people to consume marijuana in hotel rooms opens the door to a boom in cannabis tourism, says lawyer Matt Maurer.

    Maurer heads the cannabis law group at Minden Gross in Toronto, and says he knows businesspeople who are interested in opening cannabis-friendly hotels and resorts, according to the Ottawa Citizen.

    Maurer says he was surprised by the province’s proposal to loosen up the ban on consuming cannabis anywhere other than private homes. The government has also asked for public comments on whether to allow cannabis lounges.

  • Niagara Falls Weighs Pros and Cons of Cannabis Tourism

    Niagara Falls tourism officials think there's a chance American tourists will cross the border to smoke legal pot.

    And they are asking whether the area should try to capitalize on American and other home-grown pot tourists by creating licensed pot lounges, according to CBC.

    With the legalization of cannabis deadline approaching, the province is looking at considering allowing licensed cannabis consumption lounges and is asking the public to weigh in on its decision a questionnaire.

    "We're just researching and trying to come up with what the stakeholders and give that information to the municipality and pass it on to the province so they know what our feelings are," said Wayne Thomson, Niagara Falls Tourism Chairman.

      The first time Gavin had a seizure, he had just turned 3. It was a grand mal seizure, the kind where people convulse uncontrollably due to irregular activity in the brain.

      A group that believes there is an ancient and little-known connection between Christianity and cannabis plans to burn oil full of psychoactive cannabinoids inside the nation’s largest Roman Catholic church during the solar eclipse on August 21.

      Anne Armstrong, a longtime cannabis activist and leader of Rhode Island’s Healing Church, says infused olive oil will be put at the bottom of a metal censer and topped with incense for use during a prayer service.

      “We’re timing it to coincide with the eclipse, there’s a lot of interesting astrological things going on,” she says.
